Since 1990, a series of world summits and global conferences on issues related to sustainable economic, social and environmental development have spelled out a comprehensive agenda for human development, including selected goals, time-bound targets and quantifiable indicators. These efforts culminated at the Millennium Summit convened at the United Nations in New York in September 2000 where world leaders adopted the Millennium Declaration. This Declaration covers issues of poverty, hunger, gender, health, education, environment and global partnerships consolidated into a set of inter-connected development goals, the so called 'Millennium Development Goals' MDGs.

To assist Caribbean countries in their efforts to monitor their achievements towards the accomplishments of these goals and to identify gaps in their realization, the ECLAC subregional Headquarters is currently implementing a project to improve national capacities in producing and disseminating statistical information related to the MDGs through a Development Account funded project "Strengthening the Capacity of National Statistical Offices in the Caribbean Small Island Developing States to fulfil the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and other Internationally Agreed Development Goals (IADGs)".

The project provides technical assistance through regional expert group meetings and workshops, capacity building at the national level, establishment of a meta data data base and the preparation of guidelines, manuals and meta data dictionaries.

The project envisages active participation from national entities, such as National Statistical Offices (NSOs), line-ministries involved in data collection, sharing and monitoring and reporting and has therefore created this website to provide a platform to share information on the project and to seek feedback from its stakeholders.
