FAO, ECLAC, WFP, and IICA will Launch a New Report on Financing Food Security and Nutrition in the Region

25 April 2024|Announcement

In the report, the organizations warn that the cost of not addressing this issue could be almost six times greater than the cost of working to improve access to healthy diets in Latin America and the Caribbean.

On Monday, April 29, 2024, at 14:00 hours, Chile/13:00 hours Panama, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) will launch the new report "Financing for Food Security and Nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean".

The report summarizes the discussion on the methodologies used to estimate the costs of putting an end to hunger and other forms of malnutrition, and summarizes some existing estimates for the region, where it is estimated that not eradicating hunger and malnutrition has a higher cost than working on solutions to this problem in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. At the same time, it presents the main financial flows in the region and their relationship with agrifood systems.

Authorities and specialists from FAO, ECLAC, WFP, and IICA will present the report and answer questions at a press conference.
