Heads of Statistics Will Analyze the Challenges of 2030 Agenda in Quito

The President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, and the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena, will open the eighth Meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas on November 17.

Representatives of national statistics offices in American countries and experts from international organizations will attend the Eight Meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (SCA-ECLAC), in Quito, Ecuador, on November 17-19, 2015, where they will analyze the statistical challenges of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.

The President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, and the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena, will open this event, which will be held in the Presidents’ Room at the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) building in Quito and is organized by this United Nations regional commission in conjunction with Ecuador’s government, through the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC).

The meeting, which is the main forum for discussing the development of statistics in the region, will focus on the evaluation of progress made in the execution of the two-year program for regional and international cooperation activities in 2014-2015 and on the approval of the SCA’s new Strategic Plan for 2015-2025. Additionally, a seminar on the data revolution in Latin America and the Caribbean will be held.

The Statistical Conference of the Americas is a subsidiary body of ECLAC whose main mandates are the promotion of development and the improvement of national statistics and their international comparability, as well as of international, regional and bilateral cooperation among national offices and international and regional organizations.
