Activity K:Intellectual property rights and innovation policies

San Jose, Costa Rica, November 28-29, 2006.

As a follow-up of the "Capacity building seminar in the field of intellectual property rights", ECLAC prepared three studies which approach, from different perspectives, the links between intellectual property rights and countries capacities to promote innovation and technological development.

The first study is “Technological change in
Latin America: indicators for its measurement” and the second document’s title is “TRIPS, FTA and development gaps. Policy dimensions from a Latin American perspective”. The third document is “Trade liberalization and technological change in Central American Isthmus”. The last document was undertaken within the ECLAC work plan in the Mexico Subregional Headquarters as a relevant input for the Central American region and as an input for the program to strengthen trade capacities.

Documents were presented and discussed in a meeting with the participation of experts from all countries that requested cooperation in these subjects.
