Realizar acciones integrales y multidisciplinarias que ataquen las causas de la discriminación, orientándose hacia el Estado, la familia y la sociedad;

Sistematizar la información sobre la situación actual de la mujer;

Introducir reformas legales acordes con el principio de igualdad;

Favorecer cambios socio-culturales mediante acciones sistemáticas de información, comunicación y capacitación;

Promover el acceso de las mujeres a los servicios y programas de desarrollo (salud, educación, trabajo y productividad rural) por medio de acciones intersectoriales y también del potenciamiento de su participación en la toma de decisiones.

To make the gender issue an integral component of public policy;

To provide scope for consensus-building with civil society, ascertaining the demand for commitments, laws and agreements relating to women and ensuring that these are honoured;

To take comprehensive action over a range of disciplines to attack the causes of discrimination, with particular reference to the State, the family and society;

To systematize information on the current situation of women;

To introduce legal reforms, following the principle of equality;

To foster social and cultural change by means of systematic information, communication and training initiatives;

To give women access to development programmes and services (health, education, employment and rural productivity) by undertaking activities that cross sectoral boundaries and by empowering women to participate in decision-making.

Presupuesto adecuado para los primeros años de operación (75% de los recursos provienen de la cooperación internacional, 25% del Gobierno). Existe el compromiso de ir aumentando el presupuesto gradualmente.

Budget sufficient for the first few years of operation (75% of resources come from international agencies, 25% from the Government). A commitment exists to increase the budget gradually.

Nominalmente la Comisión funciona con cinco parlamentarios, pero en la práctica con dos, conjuntamente con un equipo de asesores integrado por profesionales varones y mujeres.

The Commission operates in theory with five members of parliament, but in practice with two, together with a team of advisers comprising male and female professionals.
