TERMS OF REFERENCE:

Set up by the Government at the highest level under Decision No. 097-DSM of 28 February 1994.

OBJETIVOS Y FUNCIONES:

Coordinar todas las actividades, planes de acción y políticas gubernamentales dirigidas al mejoramiento y calidad de la participación de la mujer en la sociedad hondureña.

OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS:

To coordinate all government policies, activities and plans of action aimed at improving the degree and quality of participation by women in Honduran society.

PRINCIPALES ACTIVIDADES:

Coordinación de políticas interinstitucionales; capacitación y sensibilización con enfoque de género a nivel central y regional;

Canalización del apoyo técnico y financiero para la ejecución de proyectos productivos y de carácter social, especialmente en áreas rurales y barrios urbano-marginales;

Campañas en contra de la violencia intrafamiliar y todas las formas de discriminación que afectan a la mujer.

MAIN ACTIVITIES:

Coordinating policies between institutions; providing training and raising awareness from a gender standpoint both at the centre and in the regions;

Channelling technical and financial assistance to implement production projects and those of a social nature, especially in rural areas and marginal urban districts;

Campaigning against family violence and all forms of discrimination that affect women.

PERSONAL:

Actualmente, la Oficina Gubernamental de la Mujer funciona con seis personas: Directora Ejecutiva; Administrador; Técnica encargada del Departamento de Capacitación; Técnica encargada del Departamento de Comunicación e Información; Secretaria; Aseadora.

STAFF:

At present, the Government Office for Women operates with six people: a woman Executive Director; an Administrator; a woman Specialist in charge of the Training Department; a woman Specialist in charge of the Communication and Information Department; a Secretary and a Cleaner.

RECURSOS FINANCIEROS:

Presupuesto de la Presidencia de la República y apoyo del Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia (UNICEF), el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD), la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura y la Alimentación (FAO), el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), el Banco Mundial, el Instituto Latinoamericano de las Naciones Unidas para la Prevención del Delito y el Tratamiento del Delincuente (ILANUD) y donaciones de equipo de oficina efectuadas por las Embajadas de Japón y China.

FUNDING:

Budget from the Presidency of the Republic and support from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, the United Nations Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (ILANUD) and donations of office equipment from the Embassies of Japan and China.
