| MANDATO LEGAL: La Comisión para los Asuntos de la Mujer fue creada en virtud de la Ley N° 57, del 30 de mayo de 1973, en su forma enmendada. En 1994, la Orden Ejecutiva 16-1994-OE crea la Comisión de Derechos Humanos, integrada por otros organismos gubernamentales como la Comisión para los Asuntos de la Mujer. Sin embargo, ésta maintiene su independencia en términos de asignación presupuestaria, reclutamiento de recursos humanos y diseño y aplicación de políticas públicas. |
TERMS OF REFERENCE: The Women’s Affairs Commission was established by Law No. 57 of 30 May 1973, as amended. In 1994, Executive Order 16-1994-OE set up the Human Rights Commission, which comprises other government agencies including the Women’s Affairs Commission. However, the latter maintains its independence as regards budgetary appropriations, recruitment of staff and the development and implementation of public policies. |

OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS: The Women’s Affairs Commission is a dynamic agent of change which formulates, introduces and promotes public policies designed to guarantee recognition of women’s rights. |
| PRINCIPALES ACTIVIDADES: Asesoría, capacitación (grupos comunitarios, policía, personal de justicia), investigación, asesoría legal, recopilación de información. |
