Experts from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) held a Regional Consultation on Inclusive Growth in Latin America and the Caribbean on 14-15 November 2013, at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, Chile.
During the event specialists, policy makers and practitioners from Latin America and the Caribbean dialogued on the dimensions of inclusive growth, its conceptualization and measuring, as well as the policies that can be put in place to combine strong output growth with a more even distribution of its benefits.
The meeting was opened on Thursday 14 November at 2:00 p.m. by Alicia Bárcena, ECLAC Executive Secretary, and Luiz de Mello, Deputy Chief of Staff of the OECD.
Participants in the meeting exchanged their views on how the region can tackle the remaining high levels of inequalities, widespread informality in the labour market and unequal access by social groups to infrastructure, and public goods and services.
Some of the meeting attendees were Antonio Prado, Deputy Executive Secretary of ECLAC; Nora Lustig, Professor of Latin American Economics at Tulane University (USA); Ricardo Ffrench-Davis, Professor of Economics of the University of Chile; Teresa Ter-Minassian, Economist and Former Director of Fiscal Affairs of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Rodrigo Jordán, Director of the Foundation to Overcome Poverty of Chile.
