ECLAC Wants to Get to Know Case Studies on Impact Investments for Sustainable Development in Brazil

13 June 2019|News

Researchers, private-sector professionals, businesspeople, representatives of civil society, policymakers and civil servants are invited to submit case studies.

The United Nations’ Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), through its Brazil Office, invites researchers, private-sector professionals, businesspeople, representatives of civil society, policymakers and civil servants to submit case studies on impact investments for sustainable development in Brazil, which will form part of the “Big Push for Sustainability in Brazil” project.

In simple terms, the “Big Push for Sustainability” represents an approach for analyzing the articulation and coordination of policies (public, corporate and community-based, national, regional and local, sectoral, tax-related, regulatory, fiscal and those linked to financing, planning, innovation, training, etc.) to promote national and foreign investment to produce a virtuous circle of economic growth, generating employment and earnings, reducing inequality and structural gaps, and promoting environmental, social and economic sustainability.

ECLAC has developed the basic conceptual and analytical outlines of the “Big Push for Sustainability”, available here: https://www.cepal.org/pt-br/publicaciones/44506-o-big-push-ambiental-brasil-

At this time, we want to get to know cases of impact investments for sustainable development in Brazil. Then, based on these, the opportunities for and challenges to a “Big Push for Sustainability” in the country will become clearer.

The “Big Push for Sustainability” case studies can be understood to relate to experiences and examples of actions, measures, plans, strategies, programs, policies, etc. that help stimulate a set of investments aimed at providing greater socioeconomic and environmental sustainability to the predominant development pattern locally, regionally or nationally. To be eligible, the case studies must be able to report at least one indicator for each dimension of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental), which are detailed in the rules of the call for submissions.

All the studies deemed eligible to serve as “Big Push for Sustainability in Brazil” cases will form part of a repository. Those case studies considered to be the most transformative will be recognized and compiled in a publication that is due to be presented at a side event to the 25th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25 of the UNFCCC) in Santiago, Chile in December of this year. This selection of the case studies with the greatest impact aims to give visibility to and the opportunity to showcase the experiences and initiatives that produced concrete results contributing towards the sustainability of development.

The case studies must be submitted by August 11, 2019 to the email address CEPAL.Brasilia@cepal.org with the following subject: “Case Study Big Push for Sustainability [title of the case study]”. It is requested that the case studies be presented in a summarized form, of between 4,000 and 6,000 words, to be considered for publication. The rules of the call must be observed.
