How to Follow the Twelfth Meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas

The Twelfth Meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), which will take place on September 26-28, 2023 at ECLAC’s main headquarters in Santiago, Chile. During the meeting, authorities and representatives from the National Statistics Offices of Latin American and Caribbean countries will debate issues of relevance for the region’s statistical development, such as the strengthening of statistics on the environment, climate change and disasters, and progress on the implementation of platforms for access to statistical and geographical information.

The meeting will be inaugurated on Tuesday, September 26 at 10 a.m. local time in Santiago, Chile (UTC/GMT -3) by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary; Marco Lavagna, Director-General of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) of Argentina, the country serving as Chair of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC; and Stefan Schweinfest, Director of the United Nations Statistics Division (participating virtually).

At this event, member states will address the use of statistical models to expand the availability of disaggregated data and regional mechanisms for strengthening compliance with the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics.

In addition, they will examine the outcomes of the Conference’s Biennial Programme of Regional and International Cooperation Activities, 2022–2023 and will present and approve the proposals for establishing working groups for the 2024–2025 period. They will also elect the Conference’s new Executive Committee for 2024–2025.
