Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee acknowledges relevance of Escazú Agreement for Caribbean SIDS

The 29th session of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC), held on 14 October in Paramaribo, Suriname, adopted a resolution on the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean (Escazú Agreement).

In the same, participating Caribbean States acknowledged the relevance of the Escazú Agreement in promoting sustainable development in the Caribbean small island developing States, through its support for implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the SIDS Accelerated Modalities of Action (SAMOA) Pathway, the Paris Agreement and other international development platforms.

The resolution also invited all Caribbean States to consider ratifying or acceding to the Escazú Agreement, in accordance with article 21 thereof, as appropriate, as soon as possible.
