OECS Council of Ministers on Environmental Sustainability welcomes the Enhanced Programme of Action on the Escazú Agreement in the Eastern Caribbean

The eighth meeting of the OECS Council of Ministers on Environmental Sustainability took place in a virtual format on 20 and 21 May 2021. Chaired by Saint Kitts and Nevis, the meeting had as its theme “Unlocking a Green, Resilient and Inclusive future for Eastern Caribbean SIDS”.

The eighth meeting of the OECS Council of Ministers on Environmental Sustainability took place in a virtual format on 20 and 21 May 2021. Chaired by Saint Kitts and Nevis, the meeting had as its theme “Unlocking a Green, Resilient and Inclusive future for Eastern Caribbean SIDS”.

During the meeting, Ministers and representatives of OECS Member States discussed practices for a robust recovery and resilient transition, the promotion of sustainable energy, the strengthening of climate resilience, green and blue economy and financing for sustainability as well as sub-regional frameworks for biodiversity and ecosystems.

In its capacity as Secretariat to the Escazú Agreement, ECLAC reported on the developments of the Enhanced Programme of Action on the Escazú Agreement in the Eastern Caribbean established between ECLAC and the OECS in May 2020. These included the support provided in environmental information systems and the definition of strategic sectors to materialize the OECS Green-Blue Economy Strategy. The Council of Ministers welcomed the Programme of Action and requested ECLAC and the OECS to continue their provision of technical support to the Eastern Caribbean on the Escazú Agreement.
