25 October 2017|Announcement

Alicia Bárcena, the organization’s Executive Secretary, will hold a press conference in Santiago, Chile on Monday, October 30.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will release a new edition of its annual report on foreign trade in the region next Monday, October 30, at 11:00 a.m. (GMT -03:00), at its central headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

The document International Trade Outlook for Latin America and the Caribbean, 2017 (previously known as Latin America and the Caribbean in the World Economy) will be launched at a press conference presided by the Executive Secretary of the United Nations regional organization, Alicia Bárcena.

In this edition, the report analyzes the performance of international and regional trade in the last year as well as prospects for the coming months. According to the study, Latin America and the Caribbean’s foreign trade shows signs of rebounding, leaving behind the negative performance seen in the 2012-2016 period. Details on this will be provided at the press conference.

The launch will be transmitted live via the institution’s website.

In addition to analyzing the dynamics of the region’s foreign trade, the current edition of the International Trade Outlook for Latin America and the Caribbean includes chapters focused on the development of trade in services and on agricultural trade in the region.

This document was prepared by ECLAC’s International Trade and Integration Division.

Members of the media are invited to attend the report launch, which will take place at ECLAC’s Headquarters in Santiago, Chile (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Celso Furtado room).

Journalists must have their media credentials or identity documents with them to gain access to the building.

An electronic informational version of the document and a press release will be available on ECLAC’s web site on Monday, October 30, as of 11:00 a.m. Chile time (GMT -03:00).
