(5 May, 2010) The Director of the Paris School of Economics, François Bourguignon, will deliver a lecture at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) on Thursday, May 6 at 11:30 a.m.
Bourguignon will speak on "A Lesson of the Crisis in Europe for Social Protection in Latin America". The French economist will be received at ECLAC by Executive Secretary Alicia Bárcena, who will welcome him on behalf of the Commission.
The Ambassador of France in Chile, Maryse Bossière, members of the diplomatic corps, academics and representatives of international organizations and civil society will attend the lecture.
As an expert on income distribution, Bourguignon has participated in the world discussion on economic growth and equality. He is consultant of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the United Nations and the European Commission.
Bourguignon was Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank from 2000 to 2007, during which time he made important contributions in the areas of economic growth and poverty, millennium development goals, effective assistance, globalization and international migration.
