ECLAC Expresses its Condolences and Solidarity over the Devastating Earthquake that Struck Turkey

José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, the United Nations regional organization’s Executive Secretary, sent a letter to the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In a letter addressed to the President of the Republic of Turkey (Türkiye), Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, dated February 10, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) expressed its “deep sorrow and concern over the devastating effects of the earthquake” that struck that country on February 6 and conveyed its solidarity for the irreparable loss of life caused by this sad occurrence.

Turkey has been a Member State of ECLAC since July 25, 2017.

President of the Republic of Türkiye

It is with deep sorrow and concern that we have learned of the devastating effects of the earthquake that struck Türkiye on February 6.

On behalf of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and on my own behalf, I would like to convey to you and to the families of your people, our solidarity and our fraternal condolences for the irreparable loss of life caused by this sad occurrence.

We also express our attentive concern for the people affected, for the injured and the victims.
