GUADALAJARA, December 3, 2023.- The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) participated in the 37th edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (known as FIL), which was described as “the best on record” by the University of Guadalajara’s Rector, because it drew 857,315 people over the course of nine days of activities.

ECLAC’s most relevant publications were displayed and disseminated in the space it shared with the Mexico offices of UNHCR, UNIC, FAO, IOM, OHCHR, UN Women, PAHO/WHO, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNODC and UNV.

Among the materials most requested by visitors were ECLAC’s publications on gender equality, the care society, sustainability and the environment. The most recent flagship reports and publications were distributed and promoted, and infographic material – such as “What is a DaLA?” (on Damage and Loss Assessment), “What is ECLAC?” and “New Narratives” – was provided this year to reach the younger public and general public.

The visits and queries made by students and academics from the University of Guadalajara, the Autonomous University of Nayarit and the University of Colima were notable in terms of quantity and level of interest, and the majority of these scholars joined ECLAC’s contact database to stay abreast of the Commission’s publications and news.

From the material it took to the Fair, ECLAC donated books, documents and materials to the University of Guadalajara and to the public Library of the State of Jalisco for its collection.

The 38th edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair will take place on November 30-December 8, 2024 and will be hosted by Spain.
