The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) conducted a training on gender statistics and indicators for the Ministry of Finance of Chile and its dependent and related institutions. This training was carried out in the context of the technical assistance that the Division for Gender Affairs, in coordination with the Economic Development Division of ECLAC, conducts for that institution. The training was attended by 70 staff members and consisted of four virtual sessions and an in-person ideas workshop held between November and December 2023.

Violence against women and girls remains the most widespread and pervasive human rights violation worldwide, affecting more than an estimated 1 in 3 women. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres joined ECLAC staff in raising awareness of this human rights violation during his visit to Chile.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), together with UN Women and CARICOM, held the first part of the Gender Statistics and Indicators course from 13 to 15 September in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The course was attended by 29 representatives of national statistical offices and machineries for the advancement of women from member and associate countries.

The Chief of the Division for Gender Affairs of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Ana Güezmes, participated in the IV Forum of Ministers, Vice-Ministers and Senior Officials of the Americas. The event was organized by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and took place at its headquarters in San José, Costa Rica, on August 22, with a view to highlighting the importance of the care economy in the region's agrifood systems.

During the side event organized by ECLAC, the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Chile and UN Women, on the occasion of the Sixth Meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development, the Chief of the Division for Gender Affairs of ECLAC, Ana Güezmes García, emphasized the importance of a comprehensive, multi-scalar, and cross-cutting approach to achieve the goals set forth in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Regional Gender Agenda, to prevent the deepening of gender inequalities, and to advance towards substantive equality and autonomy for all women and girls in their diversity.

The Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development is State-led and open to participation by all Latin American and Caribbean countries. It is convened under the auspices of ECLAC and guided by the principles established for all follow-up and review processes by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted in September 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly.
