“Imagine a World Without Islands” campaign Hands Megaphone to Island People Ahead of SIDS4 Conference

The United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean Area (UNIC Caribbean) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean subregional headquarters for the Caribbean (ECLAC Caribbean) are proud to announce the launch of the “Imagine a World Without Islands” campaign. With small island developing States (SIDS) facing a shaky and uncertain future, this initiative will lean on island voices to make the case that SIDS and their way of life are worth fighting for.

T&T Parliamentarians Engage in Masterclass on Data, Statistics and AI for Decision Making and Sustainable Development

Trinidad and Tobago legislators are enhancing their understanding and knowledge of data, statistics and artificial intelligence (AI) for improved legislation and sustainable development. Parliamentarians including the Speaker of the House, President of the Senate, government ministers, opposition MPs and independent senators actively participated in a Masterclass on Data and Statistics for Decision Making, organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in collaboration with the Parliament of The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Jovens caribenhos debaterão o desenvolvimento sustentável e o futuro da região nos Diálogos da Juventude do Caribe em abril

Cerca de 100 jovens do Caribe se reunirão nos Diálogos da Juventude do Caribe 2024 para debater sobre assuntos que afetam o desenvolvimento sustentável e sua futura existência como povos insulares em risco. Os jovens do Caribe se reunirão para intercambiar ideias sobre como colocar os pequenos Estados insulares em desenvolvimento do Caribe no caminho do desenvolvimento sustentável, ao mesmo tempo que enfrentam um desenvolvimento lento, as repercussões da pandemia de COVID-19 e outros desafios sociais e econômicos.

ECLAC Caribbean Encourages Regional Leaders to Use Resources for Progress on Gender Equality for Women and Girls

The international community has committed to making every effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, yet we remain disturbingly behind when it comes to meeting the targets for achievement of gender equality and empowering all women and girls. The SDG indicators measuring progress on this goal signal that, globally, we are only on track to reach 15.4 per cent of the targets set for gender equality. Even more worrisome is the fact that 61.5 per cent of the gender equality targets are far or very far off track.
